Thanksgiving Day

We celebrate thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of every November. It was an official holiday in 1863. During the civil war when Abraham Lincoln was president. He made this an official national holiday because we needed to thank our fathers who are in heaven. This is why we celebrate thanksgiving because we need to thank them for everything they have done for us. Traditionally these days for us in California we have foods of season, charity, giving thanks, vacation and travel, parades, football, television, radio. All these things are what are traditional for us. Foods of the season which is we usually eat are roasted or baked turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet corn, various fall vegetables, and pumpkin pie. Everyone who celebrates thanksgiving usually eats turkey. This is so true that sometimes they refer thanksgiving to “turkey day.” Most communities have annual can food drives. They do these five days before thanksgiving so on Tuesday they can have something call Giving Tuesday. As thanksgiving says we thank everyone for everything. Religious folks thank god for everything. Thanksgiving is plainly for giving thanks for every single thing you have. When families’ vacation and travel they go see and unite with their family that is distant from them. In airlines and trains it is the busiest travel period because thanksgiving is a four-day or five-day weekend vacation in colleges and schools. In this time there are a lot of parades and celebration because as I said before they celebrate and thank everyone. Sometimes restaurants have specials on thanks giving and radios give a way things or rewards.

Acts of kindness

Today I saw many acts kindness. They all touched my heart of course. Being kind is the best thing that you can do. Actually doing something kind warms your heart more than watching someone else do it. It so amazing how you can just make someone’s day by just giving them food or just small things like giving up your parking space so they can park. I just love helping people out and when this happens when you help someone when you are kind. Then they will be thankful and maybe do something kind for someone else. The kindness will spread. There is just one problem with this which is that you have to watch out who you are kind to because they can take that for granted and then take advantage of your kindness. For example when you give someone money they start to notice that your very kind and just keep taking your money. Of course you giving them money are kind but you also have to think of how it will affect you. The more you are kind though the more positive things will happen to you. So just keep being kind and spread your kindness. When you are kind then that person will be kind to someone else. I saw three videos today based on kindness. They touched my heart because I know that there are still kind people everywhere. Even in little kids just like Ian who gave the ball he caught at a baseball game to this little kid that was crying because he wanted the ball. After that act of kindness that Ian did. The people at the baseball game noticed it and gave Ian a baseball bat signed by his favorite baseball player.

Dental assistant
Duties and responsibilities: Dental assistants typically do the following. Work with patients to make them comfortable in the dental chair and to prepare them for treatments and procedures. Sterilize dental instruments. Prepare the work area for patient treatment by setting out instruments and materials. Help dentists by handing them instruments during procedures. Keep patients’ mouths dry by using suction hoses and other equipment. Instruct patients in proper dental hygiene. Process x rays and complete lab tasks, under the direction of a dentist. Keep records of dental treatments. Schedule patient appointments. Work with patients on billing and payment. Assistants who perform lab tasks, such as making casts of a patient’s teeth, work under the direction of a dentist. They may prepare materials for casts of teeth or to create temporary crowns. All dental assistants complete tasks, such as helping dentists with procedures and keeping patient records, but there are four regulated tasks that assistants may perform, depending on the state where they work.
Salary: $25,550-$47,580
Education: High school students interested in a career as a dental assistant should take courses in biology, chemistry, and anatomy. Some states require assistants to graduate from an accredited program and pass a state exam. Most programs are offered by community colleges, take about 1 year to complete, and lead to a certificate or diploma. Programs that last 2 years, also offered in community colleges, are less common and lead to an associate’s degree. The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), part of the American Dental Association, approved more than 250 dental-assisting training programs in 2013. Accredited programs include classroom and laboratory work in which students learn about teeth, gums, jaws, and other areas that dentists work on and the instruments that dentists use. These programs also include supervised, practical experience.

Reflection: I think being a dental assistant would be a good job because it seems interesting. I would like to help the dentist in preparation for whatever he or she may need. Also because I would like the patient to have good teeth.

Dental Lab Technician
Duties and responsibilities: Dental laboratory technicians use impressions, or molds, of a patient’s teeth to create crowns, bridges, dentures, and other dental appliances. They work closely with dentists, but have limited contact with patients. Dental laboratory technicians work with small hand tools, such as files and polishers. They work with many different materials to make prosthetic appliances, including wax, plastic, and porcelain. In some cases, technicians use computer programs to create appliances or to get impressions sent from a dentist’s office. Dental laboratory technicians can specialize in one of six areas: orthodontic appliances, crowns and bridges, complete dentures, partial dentures, implants, or ceramics. Technicians may have different job titles, depending on their specialty. For example, technicians who make porcelain and acrylic restorations, such as veneers and bridges, are called dental ceramists.
Salary: $33,070-$55,270
Education: Although there are no formal educational requirements to become a dental or ophthalmic laboratory technician or medical appliance technician, most technicians have at least a high school diploma. Some community colleges and technical or vocational schools have formal education programs, but such programs are not common. High school students interested in becoming dental or ophthalmic laboratory technicians or medical appliance technicians should take courses in science, mathematics, computer programming, and art.

Reflection: I would like to be a dental lab technician because it seems like a fun job. Also because I get to help people get their teeth fixed. This is also great because that would increase their self-esteem by a lot. Also they would smile with confidence and show their new awesome teeth.

Veterans Day

Reflection: I honor and thank all who are and serve in the army. For the fact that they put their lives on the line just to let our country be free and be protected. So we can sleep at night peacefully knowing that someone is fighting to protect us. I respect them and the government should give them more than they have because they deserve it. I believe they deserve more because the can die at war at any moment and that is what people/ government don’t get. They need to know that they are there for us to protect us and the government doesn't want to give them more. I think that really sucks for them because they risk their lives for us. I can relate to all those people that have someone in the army, military, air force because my uncle he has been in the marines since he was a teenager. He serves our country and he doesn't get payed that well. He had to wait a very long time for him to get a home where he can stay. Also the discounts sure they help but not as much as getting a raise of $20 or free food or maybe just a home to live in.
